Denmark Delegation,
Congratulations! I'm very excited to be taking such an exceptional group of students abroad to represent Tallwood and the USA in Denmark for the first time. You are now a part of Tallwood history which just adds to the fun of this trip.

Things to know before you go:
It will be COLD! Get ready now! Think in layers - undershirts, sweaters, and make sure your jacket will close over all of that. (Winter temps range from 14 degrees F to 35 degrees F)
Check into the Smart Traveler Enrollment program - provided by the US government this program sends text alerts to parents and students if the State department needs to contact us. It also alerts our US ambassador that we are traveling to Denmark. I have already filled this out and contacted the embassy, but I think it is a good idea for your parents and you to get alerts as well. DENMARK HAS NO CONCERNS LISTED BY THE STATE DEPARMENT AT THIS TIME. It is totally safe to travel to Denmark.
Address for the school:
Aabybro Efterskole
Højskolevej 7
9440 Aabybro
Things at the School:
1. They do have laundry facilities
2. No sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, etc, need to be packed - all at school
3. No pay phones at the school (host families will let you call out using a phone card though!)
4. Free wifi!
Shopping list:
1. a warm skii, snowboarding, or other type of jacket.
2. Warm snow boots (yes, there will be snow)
3. Thermal underwear if you are the type of student who is cold all the time.
4. Dress clothing (suit and tie - men, dress or suit/heels - ladies - we might get to meet some VIPs and want to look our best)
5. Exercise clothing (this school is known for gymnastics, they will be teaching some moves to you)
6. Luggage - no more than 50 pounds!!!! (See below)
7. Camera - this is a no brainer
8. Cell phones - check to see if your phone will work internationally and decide how important it is for you to have a working phone overseas- ipods with wifi work overseas and you can facebook your parents, or get phone cards. There is a phone you can use at the school, but you'll need a phone card to use it.
9. Money - Get a debit card, know your pin, and know how to use it! We'll withdraw funds from an ATM once we get to Denmark for cash. (a few hundred should cover expenses) Be sure to contact your bank and let them know you'll be traveling overseas so they will allow your card to work! Be sure to practice taking money out of an ATM BEFORE you get to Denmark.
10. An adaptor for your electronics - yes, you need one of these! I'm looking for deals, but $30 at Target for an international adaptor that will work anywhere seems to be pretty good.
11. A gift for your host family - see below
First time flying? See this helpful generic packing list.
Luggage:
1. We are recommending you take only ONE 50 pound suitcase and one small carry on (plus a Small purse like item). You have to be able to transport your own luggage around the airport.
2. Extra luggage is EXPENSIVE!! Don't pack like you are going to the wilds of Russia, as you'll have to pay the extra baggage fees, and you'll slow down the group as we check in at the airport.
3. Try to pack under 50 pounds, so you'll have room for the gifts you'll be bringing home for family and friends.
4. Once we have the airline tickets, I'll be posting the luggage restrictions for our airline.
Things to think about:
1. Your class presentations - before and after - you will presenting to classes in Denmark like the Israeli students did here. I have a sample from one of them that we will look at so that we can be just as awesome. When you get back you'll be expected to share those experiences with our school, be ready! Check out the example below!
Example Part 1
Example Part 2
Example Part 3
Example Part 4
2. a gift for your host family - you will be staying with a family who will be feeding you, giving you a place to stay and providing a once in a life time chance to see another culture. A gift for all that is just good manners.
